Leonia man face sex charges with minor, bail set at $500K

|

In Bergen County, New Jersey, a Leonia man has been recently accused of sexually assaulting a young girl.

The alleged assault happened five years ago when the victim was 10-years-old. The suspect has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault. The judge overseeing the case has set the man's bail at $500,000. The suspect will be arraigned in Leonia Municipal Court at a later date.

A person charged with a sex crime is often ostracized by the general public as well as the suspect's family and friends. Sex crime allegations also damage the suspect's reputation and affect future employment opportunities. The only way to prove someone's innocence is to challenge the evidence presented by the prosecution and establish a strong criminal defense.

In this case, the alleged sexual assault happened five years ago. If the allegations were based on the victim's statement, the defendant might contest the validity of those statements. In other cases, the suspect can sometimes also present vital documents that can prove his innocence against the charges. But in order to present the strongest case possible, the person under suspicion should consider consulting a criminal defense attorney.

Sex crimes involving children are a very sensitive topic. Being convicted of these charges can lead to serious consequences including fines, being listed as a sex offender and incarceration. The gravity of the sentence will depend on the nature of the offense. A criminal trial is a viable option if the defendant wishes to confront the evidence presented by the prosecution.

A local Bergen County resident facing sensitive child sexual assault charges should speak with a knowledgeable attorney adept in handling sex crime cases. No matter the crime, the accused is always entitled to a defense.
