Holiday shopping spat leads to criminal charges

|

Some people in New Jersey chose to spend their Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family while others tried to score some of the best retail deals of the year at malls and shopping centers. For those who braved the retail scene, finding great gifts was just one of the major challenges of the day.

A handful of aggressive shoppers caused problems for others, including one woman who allegedly brought a stun gun with her to her local Walmart store. Another shopper claims that she and the woman got into a fight over a shopping cart at the Walmart and that the woman pulled a stun gun out of her purse, turned it on and threatened the other shopper with it.

A member of the fire department's personnel who was monitoring the crowd reported to authorities the presence of the woman with the stun gun. When authorities located her, they allegedly found the weapon in her purse. She has since been charged with illegal possession of a stun gun and could face up to a year and a half in prison.

It is an unfortunate fact that sometimes altercations between individuals result in criminal charges being filed. In this case, the alleged criminal had a stun gun that she was apparently unauthorized to possess though her criminal defense strategy may go into why she felt compelled to carry the weapon in the first place.

The holidays seem to bring out the best and the worst in people. Someone who finds himself in a difficult situation with strangers may end up charged with a crime he had no intention of ever committing. For those individuals who are facing criminal charges this holiday season, criminal defense experts in the legal field are available and can provide useful guidance on planning for criminal trials.
