Man arrested for reported gun at Newark airport

|

A man was arrested last week when airport screeners say they found a gun in a man's bag at Newark Liberty International Airport. The man was going through the security checkpoint in Terminal C when Transportation Security Administration officials say they found a .22-caliber handgun inside his carryon luggage. The man says he just forgot to take it out of his luggage.

When someone is arrested they might be wise to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney. They can help the person understand their rights and ensure they are treated fairly throughout the criminal process. When a person is arrested for something that could become very public, it might be more difficult for them to get a fair trial than someone arrested for a different crime.

The man in this case was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. While this might not sound like it is an extremely serious crime, when a person's name appears in newspapers and involves potential national security crimes, the publicity of the event can quickly make a mistake into a major issue for the person.

If police or law enforcement makes mistakes that go against laws or procedures when arresting a person, evidence in the case might be altered. This could lead to an unfair trial, and possible wrongful conviction of a person. Criminal defense attorneys understand the sensitivity of an arrest and can work with the person to evaluate their situation and form a rigorous defense while also defending the person's reputation.
