New Jersey drug ring broken up by authorities

|

In New Jersey, several people have been arrested by law enforcement during an investigation called Operation Family Tides. During the operation, drugs, guns, and money were seized. These arrests were the result of an eight-month long investigation by New Jersey authorities.

Authorities stated that the goal of Operation Family Tides was to reduce the flow of heroin into the state. With this in mind, law enforcement officials targeted various levels of the illegal drug trade. These included ringleaders, distributors and buyers. After uncovering a processing center in Middlesex County, selling locations and other areas of interest, the authorities conducted a sting and arrested fourteen individuals in Monmouth County. These individuals allegedly sold large quantities of heroin on a daily basis. They are also suspected of selling other hard drugs such as cocaine. Four suspects are still at large.

Drugs that were seized included 8,100 bags of heroin, five ounces of cocaine and four ounces of raw heroin. Three vehicles were also confiscated by law enforcement. During the operation, three individuals said to be the leaders of the operation were taken into police custody. Another leader who contributed to the New Jersey drug trade has avoided arrest and remains at large.

Drug distribution is a serious offense, but there may be options available for the reduction of charges. Those who are facing such charges may wish to consult with a criminal defense attorney in order to determine an appropriate strategy. This could include determining if the search leading to the seizure of the drugs in question was lawfully performed. In other situations, it may be possible to obtain an agreement with the prosecutor pursuant to which the defendant would plead guilty to a lesser offense in exchange for the dismissal of the more serious ones.
